Seven members of the Uintah FFA Chapter traveled to the 97th National FFA Convention and Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana, last week. “The National FFA Convention is the largest annual gathering of FFA members, and it is the largest gathering of any student-run organization,” shares the Uintah High School announcement. “To qualify for national competition, students are required to win first place at the state level in FFA events…At this year’s national convention, Uintah FFA members competed in the National FFA Nursery/Landscape Career Development Event and in the National FFA Proficiency Award program in the areas of Ag. Education, Ag. Mechanics Design & Fabrication, and Nursery Operations. The Uintah FFA Nursery/Landscape team of Isabel Owens, Lillian Strasburg, Sidney Anderson, and Spencer Foley did very well, placing 16th in the nation. They were awarded a Silver Emblem.” Individually, Owens, Anderson, and Foley each earned silver and Strasburg earned bronze. Another impressive accomplishment is that Aysia Massey was honored with the National FFA American Degree, earned by less than 1 percent of members. This is the highest degree an FFA member can achieve. Well done to this hard working group representing the Basin on a national level.
