The Uintah County Commission approved a Resolution on Tuesday to rescind a previously passed Resolution to put the Zap Tax renewal on the upcoming November ballot. Uintah County Clerk Auditor Mike Wilkins shared that the Zap Tax does not expire until October 2026 and so he recommended waiting to put it on the ballot due to what he called the atmosphere in the community right now. The Zap Tax supports the Western Park complex, including the main building, indoor arena, stalls, ice rink, amphitheater, museum, and rodeo grounds and has been collected for nearly 30 years. Wilkins emphasized that it does not support the conference center. The Uintah County Commission agreed that it will be better to wait to place the Zap Tax on the ballot. During the public comment portion of the meeting, Wilkins shared that he had contacted the Tax Commission Property Sales Tax Division to let them know that the 0.3% Sales Tax for public safety in Uintah County is now postponed until the vote in November. The Referendum effort gathered enough signatures to place the matter on this November’s ballot.
