Uintah County Woman Arrested on Attempted Manslaughter Charge

A Vernal woman was booked into Uintah County Jail last week and has been charged with 3rd Degree Felony Attempted Manslaughter. According to the probable cause statement from the Uintah County Attorney’s Office, on July 8th, 65-year-old Carol Scott is alleged to have “administered a potentially lethal dose of Morphine to a terminally ill cohabitant victim in an apparent effort to hasten the demise of the victim.” The Affidavit of Probable Cause shares that on July 8th, law enforcement was contacted with information of a hospice patient possibly being over-medicated. The 66-year-old patient with terminal cancer had been given a large dose of morphine by his wife who was his caregiver, Carol Scott. The Affidavit’s information concerning probable cause to charge Scott included statements from multiple hospice health care providers as well as family members.
