Weed control might not be on your radar but it’s an important enough matter for counties to require their own department to handle the pesky matter. Uintah County Weed Control Supervisor Nathan Balliston presented at the Vernal Chamber luncheon last week, sharing facts the public may not realize. There are 55 noxious weeds focused on by their department and Balliston shared that the impact of weeds can have far reaching effects for residential and agricultural land. The Weed Department is a member of the Utah Weed Control Association and through this are able to access government funding and the latest information and technology to manage weed control issues. The Uintah County Commission has appointed a board to oversee weed control issues and can provide some assistance to property owners to help with a portion of the expense for weed control in some circumstances.
