For several weeks, posts have been shared on Facebook community pages warning of individuals approaching people in local parking lots asking for help. The individuals claim to be in a hard circumstance and hope to sell their gold jewelry for cash in order to purchase food for their child. The warnings on Facebook have stated that this is the work of scammers and the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that to be the case. On Thursday, the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office stated, “Our area has recently seen an uptick in individuals selling gold rings and necklaces, stating that they are in need of cash for fuel, food, or other things. Be aware, the jewelry that is being sold is not real gold. If you interact with anyone selling this jewelry, know what you are buying and make sure you don’t get caught up spending a lot of money on fake items.”
