Uintah County announced this week that in compliance with the recently enacted state law, H.B. 53 ‘Litter Cleanup Amendments’, users of the Uintah County Landfill must ensure their vehicle’s load is securely covered from the point of origin until the load is deposited at the landfill. “A ‘securely covered’ load is fully enclosed by a solid barrier that prevents any contents from falling, spilling, or blowing out of the vehicle,” shares the announcement. “Examples include an integrated tarp system, a simple tarp with straps, a tonneau/bed cover, etc. In accordance with new state law, a load that is NOT securely covered will be charged double the regular load fee, plus a $10.00 fine.” Uintah County has one of the lowest regular landfill load fee rates in the state and has not increased this fee. County landfill users with a securely covered load will continue to be charged the regular $5 dollar fee without paying any additional fines. Additionally, at the landfill’s discretion, an additional penalty may be imposed to users who repeatedly violate the new state law.
