Two Uintah County men are safe thanks to a search and rescue effort in the Uinta Mountains. According to Wasatch County Search and Rescue, the Wasatch 911 call center received the report of two lost snowmobilers around 6:19pm on Sunday evening. “The reporting party was able to get text but only sporadically from the missing party,” shares the search and rescue report. “The 2 men had abandoned their sleds and were trying to walk out. After fighting the deep snow for a while, the men stopped and built a fire to spend the night. The Wasatch Search and Rescue helicopter was able to locate a fire deep in a canyon. The Utah State Department of Public Safety helicopter was called to assist in the hoist extraction. Both men(ages 31 and 29) were in good shape.” It was a cold night but that didn’t stop the search and rescue effort on hand that included 11 snowmobiles, a helicopter and Duchesne County sent 4 sleds to help. The men were found and recovered in the Soapstone area about 7 hours after they were reported missing. Wasatch County Search and Rescue reports that the rescue was thanks to “some amazing flying” by the DPS chopper.
