A Uintah County man was arrested on Monday after allegedly breaking into a home and stealing a firearm among other items. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, the front window of the residence was broken by a rock and what appeared to be blood was on the broken window as well as on the upstairs master bedroom wall. The firearm that was taken was a 9mm handgun that was inside an ammo can. The home owner told authorities she suspected the intruder was her ex-boyfriend who was the only one who knew where the firearm was kept. Officers made a visit to speak to the suspect and noted that he had bright red cuts on his hands. Eventually, he admitted that he broke the window to gain entry to the home and then went into the victim’s room and stole jewelry from a dresser and also took the firearm from the residence. He said he had hid it behind his parent’s property. Officers were able to retrieve the ammo can containing jewelry, the firearm, and other miscellaneous items. 29-year-old Austin Clay Thompson was arrested and is charged with 2nd Degree Felony Burglary of a Dwelling, 2nd Degree Felony Theft of a Firearm, and Misdemeanor Theft.
