A Uintah County man was arrested this week after he was recognized during a traffic stop as a person in surveillance footage committing a criminal act. According to charging documents, 44-year-old Michael Lane Carpenter lied and gave officers a false name when asked. Inside his pocket, Carpenter had a wallet with a teenage female’s driver’s license as well as methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. The owner of the wallet was located and reported that she had not given the defendant permission to have her wallet. Officers had surveillance footage of Carpenter taking a backpack while in a local business and then using a financial card which was in the backpack on multiple occasions and at multiple locations. He is facing charges, including Theft and Unlawful Acquisition and Use of a Financial Transaction Card as well as charges related to drugs and giving a false identity to a peace officer.
