A popular library service is coming to an end for one very good reason: it’s blown the budget. Effective the end of April, Hoopla will no longer be available through a Uintah County Library membership. Knowing that it is a popular online offering for patrons, Library Director Sam Passey took the time to explain. “After receiving multiple complaints in the past few weeks about the library’s ‘daily collective checkouts being reached’, I did some research and learned that the Library’s budget allowed the first thirty checkouts each day or an approximate daily budget of $60,” shared Passey. “When we first started the service, that daily budget got us through most days. Most of this month the daily checkouts, which reset at midnight, were all used for the next day by about 12:30 a.m.” The Library is going to expand its selection on Libby, a similar program, and reduce waiting lists there. Patrons are welcomed and encouraged to attend the Library’s next board meeting on Friday, April 28th at 9:00am at the library to share input. Passey expressed thanks as they transition into a more sustainable library service model.
