The staff and administration of the Uintah County Library presented their 2022 year in review to the Uintah County Commissioners on Monday. It was emphasized that this is an event driven library. In many ways it doubles as a community center which is backed up by the fact that the library’s door count last year was nearly 128,000 visitors. In 2022, the library planned or hosted more than 1,200 programs, events, and presentations that were attended by more than 21,200 patrons throughout the year. A few highlights include the Dr. Seuss Crazy Hat Tea Party with 322 attendees; the summer reading program with 1,623 participants; the August Comic Expo with multiple events, including a training camp attended by 422 local superheroes and villains in training; and the Winter Wonderland Christmas activity attended by 350 people and during which over 600 books from the Vernal Rotary Club were given away. Of course the library also has many clubs, Lego Club being the most attended, and weekly storytimes. Library Director Sam Passey reported that 2022 had 5,458 active patrons and many patrons who may not come into the library but utilize the online resources. The library collection has over 104,000 items on site and that jumps to 299,000 items when combined with digital resources.
