The Uintah County Commission is asking the public for input on a proposed bike lane on 500 North in Vernal. According to their Tuesday press release, the proposed bike lane could reduce or possibly eliminate on-street parking along 500 North from 3500 West to the curve at 500 West near the Basin Clinic. “On Monday, June 1st, a representative from CIVCO Engineering appeared before the commission during their regular business meeting to discuss the proposed bike lane,”shares the press release. “CIVCO has been hired by the Utah Department of Transportation for a preservation project on 500 North, which is also designated as state Road 121, from the Burdick Materials plant west of Maeser to the intersection of 500 West and US-40 in Vernal. The Uintah County Trails Master Plan designated bike lanes along 500 North as a high priority. The master plan was developed by Sunrise Engineering and the DinoTrails Committee with input from the public. It was adopted by the county commission in an open meeting in December 2018.” Those who wish to provide input on the proposed bike lanes are asked to contact Uintah County Planner Ross Watkins at rwatkins@uintah.utah.gov or by calling 385-707-6438. Please have comments submitted by 5pm on Friday, June 5th.
