Uintah County Sheriff Steve Labrum is offering his thanks for the show of support from the community toward law enforcement in recent weeks. In addition to his thanks for gifts from business owners and community members, Sheriff Labrum expressed his appreciation for the Uintah County Commission for approving an agenda item during their Monday Commission meeting that will make a difference in the retirement packages for new deputies. The Commission approved the Public Safety Retirement Enhancement. “During the 2012 state legislative session, the retirement benefits for public safety were changed,” explained Sheriff Labrum. “This created the hiring and retention problem we currently have in Utah. During the 2019 session, the Legislature came up with some one-time money to make retirement in the Tier 2 system a little better. The county commission had to vote to fund this change, however, so we can remain competitive with all other law enforcement agencies in Utah when it comes to hiring and retaining the best deputies to serve our community.”
