The Uintah County Commission considered the Children’s Justice Center Mental Health Contract during Tuesday’s Commission meeting. Angie Simper with the Children’s Justice Center presented the contract and explained that while a big change is happening behind the scenes it should have little to no effect on the clients. The Children’s Justice Center has had an ongoing contract with the Journey Counseling Center where Simper said many of their survivors receive services. When working to renew the contract, Simper learned that the Journey was closing. While initially she was worried about this news it was soon learned that the owner of Kodiak Counseling was in the process of purchasing the Journey and would be keeping the therapists on staff, meaning the children receiving services could continue without disruption to their treatment. Simper explained that the new company also has the training and licensing they need so that the change will not interrupt their federal contracts and they can continue with business as usual with the same therapists and in the same location. The Commission unanimously approved the Mental Health Contract as presented.
