Local animal shelters have been bursting at the seams and the latest numbers show that the trend continues. For the month of October, the Uintah Animal Control and Shelter Special Service District responded to 253 calls for service and drove a combined 3,865 miles. The animal shelter impounded 77 felines, 49 canines, 2 ferrets and 2 guinea pigs. Of these, 20 were claimed, 11 were adopted from the shelter, 68 were released to various 501c3 animal rescue groups, and 15 died after impound from illness. All were being treated medically and 9 were humanely euthanized either due to aggression, illness, or need for space. At the end of October, 68 animals were still at the shelter. Livestock impounds included 4 cows, of which 1 was claimed and 3 still remain at the shelter. The shelter continues to ask community members to please vaccinate your animals!
