Uinta Basin Railway project team members answered questions on Monday during an interview with Evans Family Media on Newstalk KVEL, sharing what is next since a federal appeals court overturned a 2021 project approval. In the studio were Mike Michel with Drexel Hamilton Infrastructure Partners; Keith Heaton, the Executive Director of the 7 County Infrastructure Coalition; and Duchesne County Commissioner Greg Miles who serves as the Co-Chair of the 7 County Infrastructure Coalition. Each shared their perspective on the project’s future, united in their commitment and belief that the project will happen. Mike Michel with Drexel Hamilton said that rarely there are infrastructure projects that aren’t challenged but that they know that this project is 100 percent financeable and commercially viable. Michel also talked about what he called the fairness issue of denying the Uinta Basin access to outside markets and he questioned if the lawsuits from Colorado violate interstate commerce laws. The Uinta Basin Railway team is currently working with their legal team to determine the best path forward. Michele explained that through the court system they could elevate the issue to the Supreme Court or they could ask for the entire DC Circuit Court to rule on it from the same jurisdictional level.
