Utah Highway Patrol has provided an update on an accident that happened in Roosevelt on November 26th in which a wrong way driver ran head on into a patrol vehicle. Calls started coming in about a wrong way driver in the Fruitland area on the afternoon of November 26th. The dangerous vehicle made it all the way to Roosevelt before being intercepted by two Roosevelt PD Officers who located the vehicle near the Moon Lake Electric office on Highway 40 traveling west in the outside eastbound lane in the wrong direction. Officer Arnold attempted to stop the vehicle by positioning his vehicle in the outside eastbound lane and turning on his lights. The driver of the vehicle veered around Officer Arnold and into the center turn lane, then traveled back into the inside eastbound lane and collided head-on with Sergeant Bird’s patrol vehicle finally bringing the vehicle to a stop. Utah Highway Patrol conducted an investigation and announced to the public this week that the 41-year-old male driver was experiencing a medical condition which caused the erratic driving. Sergeant Bird sustained minor injuries in the crash but is doing fine.
