It was another record breaking year for UBTech students at the National SkillsUSA competition. Iowa Tanklines covered the cost of the travel for the 13 state gold medalist students that made it to the national competition. Since 2017, UBTech has produced national SkillsUSA medalists and this year marked three consecutive years they had a gold medalist national champion. Of the 13 competitors, 9 students placed in the top 10 nationally. EmmaLyn Day placed 8th in Prepared Speech. Kolby Winterton placed 8th in Cabinetmaking. Emily Caldwell placed 6th in Medical Terminology. Ronald Salguero Suchite placed 4th in Automotive Service Technology. Brenden VanDyke placed 4th in Motorcycle Technology. Shane Riley placed 4th in Power Equipment Technology. Gage Jessen placed 3rd in Information Service Technology. Ethan Bowden placed 3rd in Carpentry and Ayden Stratz was named the National Champion in Motorcycle Service Technology. Ayden says his entire journey was an amazing experience and he’s a believer in what UBTech and SkillsUSA have to offer. “I want to encourage all high school and college aged students to get involved with UBTECH and the amazing programs they offer. Especially the SkillsUSA program,” he shares. “We are so lucky to have a great technical college in our small little town.” He also thanked his instructor Tyler McKee for pushing him to achieve his goals.
