UBTech has been awarded the largest grant in its history. U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross announced last week that the Department’s Economic Development Administration is awarding a $1.2 million dollar CARES Act Recovery Assistance grant to Uintah Basin Technical College to purchase new equipment to expand the commercial trucking industry training program. According to a press release from the US Department of Commerce, the EDA grant, to be matched with $291,908 dollars in local investment, is expected to create more than 700 jobs. “This investment comes at an important time to help Utah and our nation’s economy come roaring back and provide hard-working Americans with new opportunities,” said Dana Gartzke of the Department of Commerce. “EDA is pleased to invest this CARES Act funding for Uintah Basin Technical College to purchase modern equipment for its CDL, Auto Tech, and Diesel Tech training programs, which will result in the creation of new high-wage, high-skill jobs to aid the region’s recovery from these unprecedented challenges.” The press release states that the project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the Uintah Basin Economic Development District.
