Musicians swarmed the Vernal Middle School facilities on Saturday as the Uintah Basin Orchestra and Chorus prepares for another epic Christmas concert event. This year’s concert theme is ‘Christmas Around the World!’ and ticket sales just opened up. Local youth still have a chance to be a part of this event as they can still sign up to participate in the UBOC Children’s Choir. This is for all youth ages 8 to 13. The Uintah Basin Orchestra and Chorus has been a staple of the Christmas season since 2013. In 2012, the new Dean of USU Uintah Basin at the time, Dr. Boyd Edwards, had moved to Vernal and saw the potential for a community orchestra. As a violinist, he was a musician without a stage. As he connected with other local musicians, the Uintah Basin Orchestra and Chorus was formed with USU Music Department Head, Dr. Michael Bankhead, stepping up as Artistic Director and Conductor. UBOC has been filling the Basin with beautiful music ever since. Tickets for the December 9th concerts are now on sale online at www.ubocmusic.org.
