The health of the residents of the Uintah Basin is top priority for Uintah Basin Healthcare. September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month and UBH wants the Basin to be aware of this difficulty. One in five children and adolescents are affected by obesity. Obesity has a prevalence of 18.5% among children and adolescents aged 2-19 years. That is equal to 13.7 million children and adolescents in the United States. Immediate health risks include: high blood pressure and high cholesterol, which are risk factors for cardiovascular disease. increased risk of impaired glucose tolerance, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes, etc. Parents, guardians, and teachers can help children maintain a healthy weight by helping them develop healthy eating habits and limiting calorie-rich temptations. You also want to help children be physically active, have reduced screen time, and get adequate sleep. Children should NOT be placed on a weight reduction diet without the consultation of a healthcare provider.
