A change is on its way for the Uintah Basin Applied Technology College. Along with the other technical colleges in the state, the school will undergo a name change and starting July 1st will be known as the Uintah Basin Technical College. The school first opened in September 1968 under the name of the Uintah Basin Area Vocational Center. In 1990 the name was changed by the Utah State Legislature to the Uintah Basin Applied Technology Center then in 2001 the name was changed to the Uintah Basin Applied Technology College. The school announced its plans to expand in the Basin in 2007 with the addition of the Vernal campus which was complete in 2009. UBATC will soon officially be the Uintah Basin Technical College and rather than go by an acronym will be known as UBTech.
