The Uintah Conference Center is hustling and bustling this week with visitors from across Utah. The Utah Association of Counties holds two conferences every year and the spring conference is going on through Friday in Vernal at the conference center. Representatives from every Utah county are in attendance and the event kicked off Wednesday with an inspiring presentation by keynote speaker Dale Murphy. Murphy was a heavy hitter in Major League Baseball during the 80’s and 90’s who stood out for his clean lifestyle after joining the LDS church early on in his career. The meetings that followed and that run through Friday will focus on state topics of interest from public lands to tourism and taxes and how the different topics affect Utah counties differently. Local leaders have been excited to have the UAC conference held locally. The UAC administration began looking into the Uintah Conference Center as a potential location even before the conference center had opened. “This is a great opportunity for us to show off the amazing things we have here in the Basin,” shares conference center Assistant General Manager Tracy Smuin. “We have local people teaching classes and those attending are being invited to come back to the area, bring their families, and see all that we offer here.”
