Heavy rain and hail that hit Uintah County early Tuesday morning caused flooding for some residents on their properties. Not surprisingly, the Yellow Hill neighborhood in Maeser was most affected. According to Uintah County Emergency Manager Heidi Lundberg, the recent storm that impacted Maeser was highly localized, unfortunately affecting the known floodplain. “We are working with FEMA and the state to update our floodplain maps to ensure we have the most accurate data,” shares Lundberg. “In addition, we are collaborating with the state on a mitigation study to identify potential projects that could help reduce future flooding risks in the area.” Lundberg shared that she had heard of one home that had damages to its basement and that homes along 500 North received flooding in their yards. The construction of detention basins has been among the projects planned for helping improve flood control near Yellow Hill. Uintah County Community Development Director Matt Cazier presented on the proposed project during a Commission meeting in April 2023 referencing funding from NRCS which is a part of the Department of Agriculture. An update on flood control projects done or in process will be reported in an upcoming news story.
