If you’ve taken a look at the COVID-19 case count online for the TriCounty Health District you’ll likely notice two things. First, the TriCounty Health District is among the lowest case counts in the state. Second, while still low compared to other districts, the state count for the TriCounty District is higher than the current case count on www.tricountyhealth.com. On Wednesday, TriCounty Health reported 45 total cases while the state of Utah reported 50 for the TriCounty Health District. TriCounty Health Officer Jordan Mathis explains that the difference is due to the positive COVID-19 cases among the carnival workers last week. While their testing was done before traveling to Uintah County, the state reported their cases on the day they were in Uintah County running the carnival. TriCounty Health performed the investigation and even though those individuals traveled home a short time later, the state still reports them in TriCounty Health District. Eventually it should get adjusted and those cases should get moved to their home health district, explains Mathis, but until that happens the state case count will reflect an incorrect higher number of cases. This is also the case with the Hospitalization count. The state shows 1 higher than is reported by TriCounty Health, a difference that Mathis hopes the state will soon fix to ease confusion.
