It was an exciting day for local families that have been waiting for their school aged kids to have the opportunity to receive the COVID-19 vaccination. TriCounty Health Department held their first of four drive thru vaccine clinics to be held around the Uintah Basin, this one in Vernal, and while the line was long, it moved along quickly. “I’ve been following the news for months to see when my kids could get vaccinated, ever since I got my shots in the spring,” shared Vernal resident Shayla Brinkerhoff. “ I was thrilled to hear it’s been approved for my elementary-aged kids! We took advantage of the first opportunity to get them immunized.” There was a consistent line of cars throughout the three hour event but the nursing staff was able to get everyone through quickly. Brinkerhoff was able to get her booster shot during the clinic as well, and said she is feeling more confident sending her kids to school and being able to enjoy more time with family during the holidays. Remaining clinics will be held Wednesday, November 10th, at USU in Roosevelt; Monday, November 15th, at Duchesne High School; and Wednesday, November 17th, at the Manila Clinic. Each drive thru clinic is scheduled from 3pm to 6pm and minors must have a parent or guardian present to give consent. For those unable to make it to a drive thru clinic, the pediatric doses of the vaccine will be available through the health department by appointment.
