TriCounty Health Department has issued a Warning Advisory for Matt Warner Reservoir. A Harmful Algal Bloom means that algae is in the water that may be producing dangerous toxins that can make humans and animals sick. Boats are allowed on the water but it’s important to avoid the areas of algae, keep animals away, and not drink the water. Fishing is allowed but the fish must be cleaned well and the guts must be discarded. It is still important to not drink the water, to clean fish very well, and to keep animals away. Dogs can be exposed to toxins by skin contact with water that is contaminated with cyanobacteria or toxins, by swallowing water or by licking the water off their fur or hair. If you suspect your pet has been exposed to a Harmful Algal Bloom, seek immediate care from your veterinarian. Find more information about harmful algal blooms at habs.utah.gov.
