The Ute Tribe has officially endorsed Park City’s Jack Rubin in the Utah State Senate District 26 race. A news release dated May 1st states that Rubin met with the Business Committee and received their unanimous vote. The Tribe’s release goes into detail about their discussion and Rubin’s belief that “some people in the Basin” refer to the Tribe as “the Indian problem.” Rubin, in discussing with the Business Committee, also concluded that “the Ute Indian Tribe and local government could work together in harmony if the state and local governments came to the Tribe in a spirit of cooperation rather than one of confrontation.” Finally, the release claims that “the other candidates in the race so far have advanced the same bad faith attitude towards the Ute Indian Tribe,” citing a Facebook post from a Brian Gorum supporter. In response, Brian Gorum provided the following statement: “I am sure that The Business Committee of the Ute Tribe understands that Facebook can be a divisive tool. I know that The Business Committee does not allow anyone to speak on their behalf, therefore, I ask for the same courtesies. If elected,” states Gorum, “ I look forward to representing every citizen of our district.”
