The development of a master plan by the Trails Committee in Uintah County is moving along. Trails Committee representatives gave a progress report during the Vernal City Council meeting, stating that public meetings have been held to receive input and decide what makes sense with the local government’s general plans. Over 100 projects have been identified including potential new trails, expansions, and in-town connectivity routes. Committee member Jordan Mathis presented a map of the proposed downtown connectivity routes and explained that the 5th to 5th Revitalization Committee, the Active and Healthy Community Committee, and the Dino Trail Committee have all reviewed the plan. Among the possibilities is the implementation of bike lanes and diagonal parking to entice commercial development and getting residents active. The priority concepts for now are to connect downtown with bike lanes but there are plans for trails and projects outside City limits and into Naples as well. The Revitalization Committee has suggested that bike racks be redesigned in the shape of dinosaurs to promote downtown.
