A traffic accident revealed not only drugs in the driver’s possession but also stolen prescriptions and goods. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, 34-year-old Patrick Kody Hagele crashed into an unoccupied car on the side of the road. When officers arrived they could smell the strong odor of burnt marijuana inside the vehicle. A search revealed marijuana and drug paraphernalia, which Hagele was later cited for. The search also revealed a full bottle of prescription pills with the name of the prescribed person torn from the bottle as well as a collection of souvenir spoons that Hagele said he collects. When asked about the prescription bottle, he gave officers the name of an elderly woman that he said he had given a ride to and that she must have dropped it. Investigation revealed that he had not given her a ride but had found opportunities to visit the woman in her home, including earlier that week. A search was conducted at Hagele’s home and many items were identified as stolen, including prescriptions, collector spoons, jewelry, and other items. All but one item was confirmed to be property stolen from the woman’s home without her knowledge. Hagele was arrested on Felony Theft and drug charges.
