Uintah County Emergency Management has offered tips to handle what has become a regular difficult situation. “Recent changes from Rocky Mountain Power have led to more frequent and prolonged power outages in some areas,” shares their announcement. “By being prepared, you can ensure your family’s safety and comfort until power is restored.” The tips are as follows: 1. Put together an emergency kit with essentials such as flashlights, batteries, a battery-powered or hand-crank radio, non-perishable food items, and water for each person and pet in your household. 2. Sign up for local alerts to stay updated on outage information and emergency instructions. 3. Purchase surge protectors to protect sensitive electronic devices from power fluctuations when the power comes back on. 4. Keep mobile phones and other devices charged and consider getting a backup power source like a portable charger. 5. Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible. Food in the refrigerator will stay cold for about 4 hours if it remains closed. 6. If you rely on electrical medical devices or have medications that need refrigeration, have a plan in place for backup power or relocation. For more suggestions, visit www.ready.gov/power-outages.
