The three girlfriends of a man arrested last week in Fruitland for firing shots during a domestic dispute have also been formally charged. On August 30th, 44-year-old Dorothy Jo Smuin threatened to drive a pickup truck into a cabin if her boyfriend, 41-year-old Ronnie James Manzanares, didn’t tell her who was in the cabin with him, reports the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies found tire impressions that showed Smuin had spun the truck’s rear tires while the vehicle was pointed at the cabin. 46-year-old Patricia Mechelle Hatch and 34-year-old Charrise Monique Durazo were in the cabin with Manzanares at the time. Both identified him as their boyfriend and both told deputies that he responded to Smuin’s threat by firing a gun multiple times at her. Law enforcement did not find Manzanares on August 30th but learned the next day that he had returned to the cabin and he was arrested during a no-knock warrant. Drugs, paraphernalia, and the handgun believed to have been used in the shooting were all recovered and he was booked into the Duchesne County Jail on a no-bail warrant and is charged with use of a firearm by a restricted person, aggravated assault, discharge of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Smuin is charged with obstructing the service of a Board of Pardons warrant, possession of a controlled substance, obstruction of justice, making a threat of violence, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Patricia Mechelle Hatch and Charrise Monique Durazo are each charged with obstruction of justice. Hatch is also charged with three drug-related offenses and Durazo is charged with two traffic-related offenses.
