Executing road projects takes careful planning but there’s not much you can do when Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate. Last week, Taylor Mountain Road (Forest Service Road 044) was treated with Magnesium Chloride in preparation for the summer season. Magnesium Chloride bonds the road surface and reduces dust and loose gravel on the roadway. Ashley National Forest announced Wednesday that a second treatment was required, unfortunately, due to rain washing the first treatment off and it not sealing correctly. As a result, it is important that travelers stay off of Taylor Mountain Road for the next several days to allow for the second treatment to dry and seal. Traffic on the road after placing Magnesium Chloride can damage the surface of the road and Magnesium Chloride is corrosive to cars and ATVs. It is HIGHLY recommended no one drive on the road.
