Take Safety Seriously Driving through Road Construction

It’s road construction season and Vernal City Police is urging citizens throughout the Basin to put safety first. Navigating work zones largely comes down to managing speed and space. Slow down when approaching all work zones and follow posted speed limits. Try to maintain a consistent speed with the traffic flow and make adjustments based on weather conditions. Do not resume normal speeds until you see roadway signs indicating it’s safe to do so. Fines are also higher if issued a citation, shares Vernal City Police. Managing space is also key to safe travels in road construction. Leave sufficient braking room between your vehicle and the one ahead of you. Also keep a safe distance between your vehicle and traffic barriers and construction equipment. Do not pass on the shoulder. Watch out for tailgaters and never force tailgaters to back off by slamming on brakes or reducing speed significantly. Above all, slow down and watch for construction workers, pedestrians and other vehicles.
