Law enforcement agencies across Colorado responded to calls of school threats and false reports of shots fired at schools on Wednesday. At least 17 schools were put on lockdown due to calls reporting shooters or bombs and the Colorado Department of Public Safety reported that many of the calls were from the same number tied to an internet based texting service. Western Colorado schools were among those targeted. Rifle Police Department shared on Wednesday morning that schools had been placed on Secure status, meaning school continued as usual but no one was allowed in or out, out of an abundance of caution while threats were investigated. The ‘Swatting Calls’, as they are being called, appeared to occur in alphabetical order and thankfully none of the threats were credible. The FBI investigation is ongoing.
