The suspect in the August 24th stabbing that killed one man in Ballard has officially been charged with 1st Degree Felony Murder. The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office shared that on August 24th at approximately 9:00pm, Deputies were dispatched to a residence in Ballard on the report of a possible fight in progress. When deputies arrived an adult male was found unresponsive with multiple stab wounds. Life saving measures were performed on the victim on scene and at the hospital in Roosevelt before he was flown to the Wasatch Front, where he died the following day. The victim has been identified as 44-year-old Owen Shuck. The unknown assailant had fled the scene but investigators were able to identify 42-year-old Brandin Lynn Reynoldas the suspect early Sunday morning. Reynolds was taken into custody and has been held at the Uintah County Jail for nearly 2 weeks on a parole violation. On September 4th, Reynolds was officially arrested for the offenses of 1st Degree Felony Murder, 2nd Degree Felony Obstruction of Justice, and 2 counts of 3rd Degree Felony Possession of a Dangerous Weapon by a Restricted Person. The Affidavit of Probable Cause states that the stabbing victim, Owen Shuck, was dating Reynolds ex-girlfriend. When detectives located Reynolds at his residence the morning after the stabbing, what appeared to be blood was noticed on his shoes and inside his vehicle. He was then taken into custody on his parole violation. Search warrants were approved and samples of the suspected blood were taken from the vehicle as well as from articles of clothing. Kitchen knives from his residence with handles identical to the one located at the crime scene were found and confiscated and Reynolds vehicle and cell phone were also seized. Vernal City Police assisted the investigation by checking trash bins near a fitness center in Vernal. Surveillance footage showed that Reynolds had entered the fitness center on the night of the stabbing just before midnight. Bloody towels were found in the bathroom trash bin and there were blood stains found in the shower. More evidence was found in a dumpster located in Vernal City that contained a blood soaked blanket, bloody clothes, shoes, a large kitchen knife, a bat covered in blood, floor mats and more. Surveillance footage also showed Reynolds purchasing bleach and paper towels from a 7-Eleven in Vernal before he headed to the fitness center to shower. Another piece of damning evidence was uncovered in the form of a text message Reynolds sent to an acquaintance on the day of the murder stating the victim by name as someone he needed to get “out of the way”. Brandin Lynn Reynolds is being held without bail.
