Last month, a couple from Missouri found themselves in a situation no one wants to be in. While looking for a spot to park and camp, their vehicle and camp trailer got completely stuck in the sand on the east bank of Flaming Gorge. They called 9-1-1 and then waited, stranded, and hoping to be rescued. They comfortably stayed the night in their camper but were still in need of help. While their cell service didn’t work they were still able to call 9-1-1 and they called again the next day late in the morning. At about mid afternoon the couple heard the sound of a helicopter and to their surprise it was helping with the search to locate them. Search and Rescue brought them to Rock Springs for the night and the next day they were able to hire Salvation Towing that specializes in off-road recovery. It wasn’t easy but they eventually pulled the sunk-in truck and trailer out of the sand. The Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office was thrilled when weeks later they received a donation in the mail from the grateful couple to go towards future Search and Rescue missions.
