An officer parked in the Vernal Middle School parking lot intervened in a disturbance on August 8th in the area of Independence Park which led to an arrest on a variety of charges. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, 35-year-old Samuel Tony Mendelkow arrived in the area on his bicycle and loudly confronted a man at the park, pursuing an altercation. The officer stepped out of the vehicle and called Mendelkow over to him which he failed to do as he continued “acting in a threatening and tumultuous behavior”. The officer gave Mendelkow a lawful order to stop which was ignored, resulting in his arrest for disorderly conduct. During the arrest, Mendelkow was found to be in possession of a financial card with another person’s name on it, which he claimed he had permission to have. The card holder was contacted and said that no one had permission to be in possession of the card. Samuel Mendelkow was arrested on the offenses of Disorderly Conduct and Felony Unlawful Possession of a Financial Card.
