A Sexually Transmitted Infection tops the list of the TriCounty Health monthly disease report. Chlamydia has grown in local cases each month and statistics show that sexually active young people between the ages of 15 and 24 are at the most risk. According to TriCounty Health, Chlamydia is the highest reported disease in the Basin but its rate is still fairly average compared to the rest of the state. Still, locals are urged to get educated and take precautions. Testing is available at local medical centers or a $25 dollar test is available at the health department. The most effective ways to prevent the spread of the disease is abstinence followed by having sex with only one uninfected partner. It is also recommended to use protection and get tested regularly if you engage in high risk sexual behavior. TriCounty Health offers free treatment for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea at both the Roosevelt and Vernal locations.
