State Route 35 Reopens; Yellow Lake Fire Report

The Utah Department of Transportation has reopened State Road 35. North Fork Road and Mirror Lake Highway were also closed due to the Yellow Lake Fire and have reopened as well. Ashley National Forest reports that the Forest Closure remains in effect on both the Ashley and Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forests. “Please drive cautiously and stay out of burned areas that have hot ash and fire-weakened trees,” shares the Forest Service announcement. “We specifically ask hunters and recreationists to stay out of the Closure area.” Infrared radiation done during the night has shown that last week’s rain and snow did not completely put the fire out. Crews have been working to extinguish scorching trees before they become a threat to the line and to increase containment. Road conditions have improved though some roads are still slippery. As the need for firefighting winds down, efforts to repair the scars left from suppression efforts ramp up which is especially important for water quality. As of Tuesday, the Yellow Lake Fire is 37 percent contained. It has also been listed as human caused and still under investigation.
