After winning the second round of the 4A state tournament against the Mountain Crest Mustangs in two games, the Lady Utes softball team headed to the Spanish Fork complex on Wednesday to face the Bear River Bears. Drawing first blood in the third inning with an Ella Wright triple, Savannah Lewis double and McKinnely Mull single taking a two run lead. The Bears responded in the bottom with three runs, they added another in the fifth and a couple late inning threats by the Utes fell shorts in the 2 to 4 Ute loss.

The Lady Utes softball team start their state run at home hosting the Mountain Crest Mustangs out of Hyrum also playing two out of three. In game one, the Mountain Crest Shortstop deposited the ball over the right field fence to give the Mustangs the early lead. They then added to it in the third inning with a couple of singles and a couple passed balls scoring three runs to take a 4-0 lead.
The Ute
third started with a walk and an error, then Savannah Lewis singled in two runs, the Quaylee Smuin stroked a two-run shot into the left center netting to tie the game at 4. Maurlee Luck settled in and allowed only one more run in the game.
Abigail Brown gave the Utes the lead with another bomb into the left center netting.
The Mustangs
tied it back up with another homer by the Shortstop in the top of the fifth inning. In the bottom of the fifth the Utes stroked 5 hits including three doubles in a row, scoring 7 runs to take a 7 run lead. The Utes scored another in the sixth to go onto a 13-5 victory.
The Utes decided not to wait to get started on Saturday morning as they started the first inning with two singles, a double then a home run by McKenzie Harbison to give the Utes an early four run lead. The Utes scored an insurance run in the fourth and the Mustangs got it back in the fifth. Then a string of four straight hits then another double scored 5 runs giving the Utes the 10-1 lead going into the sixth inning. Olivia Pope kept the Mustangs from scoring through most of the game and in the sixth.
In the bottom of the sixth, McKinnely Mull crushed a walk-off shot that nearly cleared the security netting in left center to mercy rule the Mustangs 11-1.
The Lady Utes
will head to the Spanish Fork complex on Wednesday at 12 noon to continue their 4A State run. They will face the Bear River Bears to start off in Spanish Fork.

The Lady Utes softball team finished second in Region 10 and will start their state run at home on Friday at 4pm hosting the Mountain Crest Mustangs out of Hyrum also playing two out of three with the second and possibly third games on Saturday starting at 11. With a win, they will head to the Spanish Fork complex on Wednesday to continue their run.

The Lady Utes softball team traveled to Ben Lomond last Thursday to finish the regular season. Olivia Pope pitched a shutout as the Utes scored nine runs in all three innings to beat the Tigers 27-0. Quaylee Smuin homered and tripled with five RBIs to lead the Utes. Six Utes tripled in the win.

The Utes took second place in Region 10 and should host a pod site to start the 4A State Tournament May 14th and 15th.

April 30, 2021

The Lady Utes softball team traveled to Roosevelt to take on the Lady Cougars Wednesday. The Utes built an 8-1 after four innings, then exploded for 14 runs in the 7th to beat the Cougars 22-7. Quaylee Smuin cracked two home runs with Aspen Wall and McKinnely Mull hitting one, with Savannah Lewis hitting two triples in the win.
The Utes travel to Stansbury Friday, to Wasatch Monday, host Ogden Tuesday, then travel to Ben Lomond Thursday to end the season.
