Speirs Wildfire Near Flaming Gorge Over 500 Acres

Crews continue to battle a wildfire burning south of Flaming Gorge Reservoir in Daggett County. The Speirs Fire was started by lightning on Saturday, July 13th. According to the update on Sunday, the fire is burning east of Cart Creek drainage, primarily in an eastward direction. “Smokejumpers arrived Saturday evening and have been constructing fire line near the fire, assisting the efforts of other resources already on scene,” shares the update. “Additional fire crews and aerial resources have been ordered…There are currently no evacuations or closures of campgrounds and developed recreation sites. This includes rafting on the Green River below Flaming Gorge Dam. However, visitors and residents in the area are encouraged to remain observant as the fire situation is dynamic and the status may change quickly depending upon fire behavior.” As of the Sunday report, the Speirs Fire had grown to 580 acres and was 0 percent contained.
