After a several year break, a birthday bash is coming up for a well known celebrity and all are invited. Smokey Bear’s debut poster was released on August 9th, 1944 making that the day considered to be Smokey’s birthday. He will be 79 this year and will be celebrating his birthday at Flaming Gorge. “Smokey Bear’s birthday party is one of the most popular summer interpretive programs put on by Ashley National Forest at Flaming Gorge,” shared Visitor Services representative Patty McCourt. “After a 4-year absence due to the avoidance of gatherings during Covid, we are happy that children from Utah and Wyoming will have the opportunity to meet Smokey again this year.” Plan to be at Red Canyon Lodge on August 12th at 3pm. The birthday celebration will of course teach about fire safety. Bring your lawn chair or blanket and remember that Only YOU Can Prevent Wildfires!
