While the Department of Transportation did not award SkyWest Airlines the bid to continue at Vernal Regional Airport, no break in service is expected. The eligibility of SkyWest to continue service was not made by local officials. The DOT rejected the application due to recent changes in SkyWest’s business approach that made them ineligible and as a result, a federal bid was opened for other airlines to apply. It’s expected the transition in service will occur this Fall and as it approaches, Vernal City is receiving more and more questions about the transition and those booking flights in September and beyond. “Skywest has committed to continue until new service starts,” shares Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion. “The exact transition date is not known.” Details about a new carrier and the schedule are expected to be shared in about a month.
