Skull Creek Fire Burning on Flaming Gorge Ranger District

The cause of a fire in the Flaming Gorge Ranger District is under investigation. Officials report that the Skull Creek Fire was seen burning east of Red Canyon Lodge on Thursday at about 5:15pm. On Thursday night the fire area received approximately 2 inches of wetting snow and was reported on Friday at about 48 acres in size. “Firefighters in the area conducting prescribed fires responded to and are actively suppressing this fire,” shared the announcement. “This fire has no connection to the prescribed fires currently being conducted. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Power to Red Canyon Lodge was interrupted for several hours as crews worked to contain the fire around the power lines running to Red Canyon Lodge.” There were 10 firefighters and 3 engines assigned to the fire and activity has been minimal along the perimeter with the active fire remaining in heavier fuels on the interior.
