An impressive group of young adults presented at the Vernal Chamber luncheon this week. The student officers of the Skills USA Vernal Chapter shared what the group is all about. SkillsUSA is the second largest Career and Technical Student Organization. Its focus is to empower members to become world-class workers, leaders, and responsible American citizens. The UBTech Vernal Chapter has over 60 members, most of whom will be competing at the state competition in March. In 2022, the SkillsUSA group sent 13 competitors to nationals with 5 scoring in the top 50% and securing placements in welding, carpentry, Diesel Equipment Technology, and first aid/CPR, which was 1st place. Chapter Vice President Ethan Bowden was among those top placements, having won 4th place at nationals in carpentry. Bowden finished off the group’s presentation, emphasizing his positive experience being part of SkillsUSA for four years and his goal to take 1st at nationals this year. Considering he built his first shed at the age of 8 and has made the craft of carpentry his passion ever since, a win at nationals is well within his reach. Good luck to the entire SkillsUSA team and keep dreaming big! To support their travel expenses during competition season sign up for their cornhole tournament happening on the UBTech Vernal Campus on March 11th.
