Senator Ron Winterton released another legislative update on Thursday. Winterton is sponsoring SB169 ‘Enticement of a Minor Amendments’ that aims to tighten up the law to prosecute grooming behaviors over the internet. This will make it easier to prosecute those using the internet through gaming or other technology to groom minors. It passed through the Senate and has been sent to the House for consideration. Senator Winterton is the sponsor of SB219 ‘Criminal Privacy Violation Amendments’. The bill amends criminal privacy violation to include the capture of data, information, or characteristics which the owner has an expectation of privacy. It passed through the Senate and has been sent to the House where Representative Scott Chew is the floor sponsor. During his update, Senator Winterton also recognized Traven Miller from Union High School who received an Honorable Mention in the Senate Art Contest with his piece titled ‘Untamable’.
