Governor Gary Herbert has issued an Executive Order that will require those entering the state of Utah to submit an electronic Self-Declaration Form stating health symptoms and recent travel history. According to information provided by the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office, the state will deploy a targeted wireless emergency alert that will be sent to the cell phones of those entering the state on certain highways, including Highway 40 at the Colorado border. “These are extraordinary times, and Utah is taking extraordinary measures like using this technology (which we have never used in an instance like this before),” shares the announcement. “There may be some kinks here and there, but it’s absolutely essential to help us stop the spread of the coronavirus, COVID-19. This is an effort to stay aware of people in Utah who might be at risk for spreading COVID-19.” The alert will become active on Friday, April 10th, at 9am and will remain active through May 1st. If you are a motorist that receives an alert, simply fill out the declaration form the next time you stop your vehicle. If you receive an alert and did not recently cross the state line, you can ignore it. As a community near the state line, there will be citizens in the Uintah Basin that cross the Colorado border on a regular basis for work. In this case it is expected that you fill out the declaration form just one time. Those that are leaving the state will also receive an alert but do not need to fill out the declaration until their return to Utah. The declaration forms can be found at entry.utah.gov.
