Wyoming’s Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office announced this week an ongoing phone scam involving friends and family of current residents at county detention centers. “Scammers claim that if you send them money via peer-to-peer digital payment apps like PayPal or Venmo, you can respond to the detention center, and your friend or family member will be issued an ankle monitor and released from the detention center. Please know these are fraudulent scam calls. Never volunteer personal or financial details over the phone. Never send digital payments to an unknown source.”
