‘Safe Alternatives to Opiates’ Health Fair

A first of its kind, a Health Fair is being held in Roosevelt this month aimed at educating the public on safe alternatives to using opiates. “Local statistics show an increase of opioid deaths of 80 percent in the Duchesne County area,” shares prevention specialist with Northeastern Counseling Tammy Meacham. “While opiate pain medicine is a necessary and important part of health and medicine, the fact remains that a person may develop an addiction to a doctor-prescribed pain medication in just 7 days. This year’s fair sponsors, presenters, and instructors feel the need to educate the public with viable information and help to empower a positive shift in the course of this dilemma by teaching safe opioid drug use and promoting the many safe alternatives that are available in this area.” The ‘Safe Alternatives to Opiates’ Health Fair will be held Tuesday, October 15th, from 9am to 3pm at the Crossroads Center in Roosevelt. It is free to the public and all are invited. The fair is sponsored by UBAOG-Senior Corps, TriCounty Health Department, and Northeastern Counseling Center.
